|CHANGES IN OSHA HAZCOM STANDARD|
|DESCRIPTION||The Hazard Communication (HazCom) Standard, once billed the "Employee's Right to Know," has been updated to align with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling (GHS). This update will now allow employees to understand the risks associated with and protections needed when working with hazardous chemicals or drugs. This session will describe required updates to chemical labels including the use of pictograms and signal words. Additional information will include how Material Safety Data Sheets will be updated and be referred to as Safety Data Sheets. While the compliance date is not until June 2015 for manufacturers and June 2016 for end users of chemicals, the time is now to begin the education process for all.|
After attending this presentation, participants should be able to:
- Describe the required label elements for all hazardous chemicals.
- Identify pictograms utilized for identification of chemical hazards.
- Recall 2 sections on Safety Data Sheets which provide specific safety measures for workers.
