 The 2011 movie Contagion raises questions about what might happen - on a personal, national and global level - if an unknown and quickly replicating deadly disease was able to spread unchecked. How would it start? How would it move? And how would we deal with it?
Disease transmission is very real. History reminds us of the 1918-19 "Spanish Flu" that ultimately infected an estimated one third of the world's population (approximately 500 million persons). Despite vaccines, antibiotics and other modern medical tools, microorganisms have an uncanny knack of spreading.
The OSAP Board encourages you to take advantage of the Warner Bros. film to discuss these important issues about disease prevention with your staff, students and peers. And check the related resources.
Disease transmission - it's not "if" but "WHEN". Please do your part in stopping transmission before it starts. And go see the movie -- just wash your hands before you eat your popcorn! |
