We'll meet in the Tampa Hyatt Regency lobby at 5:45 pm on Saturday, June 12 so we can pack in as much fun as possible! A special treat this year is the addition of a tour guide who is a bona fide historian. We'll take a spin through some of Tampa's sights and end up in Ybor City, known as Tampa's Latin Quarter for over a century. Ybor City is an exotic blend of aromas, flavors, sights and sounds. From the scent of roasting Cuban coffee early in the morning to the rhythms of Latin music late into the night, Ybor is a feast for the senses. |

Tour Guide and Historian - Fred Hearns
A one-time journalist and working author who grew up in East Tampa, Hearns has spent much of his later life researching the city's history as a hobby. And by the endless stream of Tampa trivia that spills from his mouth at every turn, it's clear that this is a passion. He's always learning new things, such as the fact that Helen Keller visited the Tampa Lighthouse for the Blind.
What Hearns has to offer is a tour that's both scenic and informative. He wants to show people the city's rich history. Hearns doubts he can ever write fiction. "There's so much truth people need to know," he said. "There's hundreds of untold stories I want to tell." (adapted from the 7/6/07 St. Petersburg Times) |
