DESCRIPTION

Dr. Bergman will describe the backround and scope of work of Miracle Corners of the World, specifically their experiences improving the overall state of oral health in Tanzania.

Through this case example of MCW's work upgrading the MUHAS Dental School and Dental Laboratory & Mazazi Mmoja Hospital Dental Clinic in Zanzibar, Dr. Bergman aims to discuss the journey to ensure that infection control becomes an integral part of the practice of dentistry and oral care.

The senior faculty at the MUHAS Dental School realizes the importance of sound infection control practices in oral care and have become inspired to lead their school in Tanzania to become a regional center for excellence and a model for other countries in the region to emulate.

In addition to the case example, Dr. Bergman will share the efforts of WHO AFRO and Senior Dental Leaders Group to integrate oral health into primary care and the network of oral health leaders in Africa that is forming.

Challenges faced will be addressed, as well as the enormous opportunity for OSAP to support the standardization of practices and sharing of guidelines with African and other developing regions. **This program is supported through an educational grant from Midmark Corporation
