TITLE    Opioid Abuse, Misuse and Diversion in Dental Healthcare Settings



Opioids may pose safety issues to both patients and dental personnel. This course will address the use of narcotics in management of acute and chronic pain, patient safety issues, and potential diversion and abuse. Opioid protocol, developed by the Minnesota Dental Association Opioid Task Force, in conjunction with the Institute for Clinical Systems Improvement will be presented. The process of opioid prescription program development and enhancement of drug safety programs will be discussed. Prescribing protocol for patients with existing substance use disorders will be addressed as clinicians strive to keep these patients safe while managing pain.
