Sam Westock MS, DDS, FACP

Captain Westock began her Naval Career as an E-1 Hospital Corpsman, and then transferred to the Dental Technician rating. While serving on active duty, Petty Officer Westock was trained, and performed the duties of Preventive Dentistry, Central Sterilization Room (CSR) Technician, Dental Recall, Supply and Mass Casualty Care Instructor. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in Hospital Administration and Management from Southern Illinois University, and upon her enlisted end of tour, was accepted into the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Dentistry. Her research in Infection Control in an OSHA Regulated Era resulted in the development, and implementation of the first UCLA Group Faculty Practice Infection Control Program. She graduated top 5% of her class, with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree, and an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) Certificate, which she completed during her 4th Dental School year. Upon graduation, she accepted a direct commission in the United States Navy Dental Corps, received the Navy Leadership Award at Officer Indoctrination School out of 327 students, and has continued to serve for 33 years with distinction.
In 2015, she received her Fleet Marine Forces Officer Qualifications, and was the first Navy Female Dental Officer to receive the CAPT Joy Bright Hancock Navy-Wide Senior Leadership Award. Currently, she is the Prosthodontics Department Head at Naval Air Station, North Island, continues to treat complex Prosthodontic patients, and serves as Lead Champion for BUMED Dental Services Advisory Board (DSAB), Falls Church, VA., for Marine and Operational Navy Dental Central Sterilization Room (CSR), Infection Control Instruction Standardizations, and Dental CSR Certifications Projects.
