| FAQ - Diseases and Disease Agents - 2015
I am looking for information on infections contracted in dental settings in the US. I cannot seem to find anything online and am wondering if you could point me in the right direction?
This is a broad based question, and it can include various pathogens and various modes of transmission (i.e. direct contact, indirect contact, etc).
The 2003 CDC guidelines for infection control in dentistry includes topics pertaining to infectious diseases (i.e. preventing transmission of bloodborne pathogens, personnel health elements, etc) and can be accessed here:
The CDC also has some related online information which can be accessed here:
You may also wish to consider consulting with dental infection control textbooks such as:
Miller CH. Infection Control and Management of Hazardous Materials for the Dental Team, 5th edition. Elsevier/Mosby Publishers
Molinari JA and Harte JA. Practical Infection Control In Dentistry – Third Edition. Wolters Kluwer / Lippincott / Williams & Wilkins.
These textbooks include a number of references to relevant infectious diseases.
