| FAQ - Instrument Processing - 2014
Is it acceptable to utilize 100% cotton muslin fabric to wrap cassette which are placed in steam/pressure magnaclaves for sterilization ?
The relevant section pertaining to packaging dental instruments from Infection Control and Management of Hazardous Materials for the Dental Team. states as follows:
Sterilization packaging materials are medical devices and are to be cleared by the FDA for safety and effectiveness. These materials must be shown to allow penetration of the sterilizing agents and to maintain sterility for at least 6 months before being cleared for sale in the United States. 1
Cloth should not be used as a sterilization wrap because it is not a barrier to microbes. 1
Ask OSAP recommends that if you have further questions regarding how to process the cassettes in question, that you contact directly the manufacturer of the cassette and/or autoclave for further information.
