Dental Infection Prevention and Safety in Australia

2012 ADA Infection Control Guidelines

The 2012 edition of the ADA Guidelines for Infection Control is the result of over 20 years of dedicated work by the Australian Dental Association's Infection Control Committee, in consultation with stakeholders. It describes the infection control procedures and processes that dental care providers and dental staff are expected to follow.

The recommendations provided are evidence-based or otherwise based on current international best practice, and have been drawn from current expert knowledge and advice in infection control.

The document provides guidance regarding the primary responsibilities of dental practitioners in relation to infection control, and the rationale for those obligations. It incorporates new information drawn from major developments over the 2009 - 2011 period in terms of national policies and the international literature.
