In May 2007, Dr. Anil Kohli, the president of the Dental Council of India, came to Baylor College of Dentistry. We decided to write the "Dental Infection Control & Occupational Safety Recommendations for Oral Health Professionals," in other words the Dental Safety Standards for India officially through the Dental Council of India. On the 28th of September 2007, the Honorable Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh officially released these standards in the form of a Book/DCI Publication at his residence in New Delhi during a book release ceremony. About 20,000 copies are being distributed and the same book as a pdf is available on the Dental Council's website for free download by the 100,000+ dentists in India. This will be the curriculum of about 14,000 students per year in 250 dental schools in India. Along with the text book that has been released, a CD with all the materials in both AV and streaming format accompanied the book and was provided to the faculty who attended the first orientation at the 2008 Annual Session of the Indian Dental Association, Mangalore, India.
