Dental News From Uganda
April 30, 2008
Some Ugandan Dentists with the primary objective of offering free oral/dental treatment and preventive procedures have specifically founded an Organization called (Uganda Dental Relief, http://www.ugdr.org/index.html). The membership is open to any one who abide by their values, check the web site for more information.
This Organization carries out its activities monthly in rural areas where there is no oral/dental professional and gives free dental treatment to the communities. It has project proposals and is looking for sponsors. All these dentists are volunteers who contribute money individually to cover the treatment cost of patients that he/she expects to treat.
I have been invited to orient their members on knowledge of infection control as CPD program and I'm going to use the OSAP material for teaching.
In Uganda dental clinics/offices are mushrooming within the urban areas which is helping in oral health service delivery. However, what is in question is "infection control,”I plan to have an advocacy project on maintenance and adherence to Infection control measures in dental unit setups through Ministry of Health, National Dental Council, though this activity too requires money to help facilitates it. Anybody who wishes to help is welcome.
In the next issue, read about dentistry in Uganda, common dental/oral health problems facing Uganda's communities and dentist population ratio.
