Overview

The Safest Dental Visit™ (SDV) is a comprehensive, collaborative program. The goal of this program is to bring patient safety to the forefront for dental practices and to improve overall patient safety. The program is spearheaded by a new campaign ‘National Dental Infection Control Awareness Month.‘ This was held in September and will be an annual event.

SDV offers you an opportunity to help strengthen your consulting and speaking practice while helping dental offices ensure that every patient visit is the safest dental visit. The information below from OSAP and other resources provide support for training and consulting with your clients, and speaking with dental professionals. SDV also provides dental practices with science-based information and support materials; these can be viewed under the Dental Practice Kit.

Working with the Infection Control/Prevention Coordinator

Every office needs an Infection Prevention and Control Program. Every office also needs an Infection Control/Prevention Coordinator (ICPC) with overall responsibility for managing and coordinating the Infection Prevention and Control Program.

As a consultant, you can help educate the ICPC on his/her role and responsibilities and collaboratively work together to train other members of the team, and to encourage the safest dental visit and compliance.
