OSAP mourns the loss of the great dental educator William Bird DDS DrPH that occurred on July 18, 2012. Bill was a great friend to OSAP. On a national/ international level he served on foundation boards supporting infection control for dental offices and institutions globally. He served on the faculty of the UCSF School of Dentistry for the past 22 years. Following his retirement, he returned on a part-time recall as a Health Sciences Clinical Professor Emeritus to assist with special projects in the Department of Preventive and Restorative Dental Sciences. James Joseph Crawford PhD
June 23, 1931 - January 11, 2013
OSAP mourns the loss of the renowned educator James Joseph Crawford PhD that occurred on January 11, 2013. Jim was one of the "fathers in dental infection control", and a founding officer of OSAP. Jim wanted to take microbiology out of the basic textbook and make it relevant and useful to the dentist. He certainly succeeded as his landmark If Saliva Were Red is a concept that transcends language and offers a visual lesson that no one who has ever seen it forgets. Click here to learn more.
