Dr. James J. Crawford Award

Nominees should have made major contributions in science, education, or public policy related to OSAP's core competencies of dental infection control, office safety and occupational health. This award, named in honor of one of the founding fathers of dental infection control, recognizes lifetime achievement in the field.

 

 


Jennifer Cleveland DDS MPH

Recipient of the 2011
Dr. James J. Crawford Award



Jennifer Cleveland DDS MPH received the 2011 Dr. James J. Crawford Award. This award pays tribute to one of the founding fathers of dental infection control. Dr. Cleveland, a dental officer/epidemiologist in the Division of Oral Health, US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, has contributed to the science of infection prevention and safety since joining the CDC in 1991. She has written numerous peer-reviewed articles on infection control and has addressed audiences around the world. She has led many initiatives advancing the field, including those related to the prevention of occupational blood exposures, an update on TB guidance, HIV screening in dental practices, and a cooperative agreement with OSAP. She has served on the editorial review boards of the Journal of the American Dental Association (JADA) and OSAP's Infection Control in Practice (ICIP) publication.

Dr. Milton E. Schaefer Superior Service Award

This award named after one of the founding members of OSAP, recognizes superior service to the organization and may recognize either continuous contributions over a period of time or singular accomplishments. The nominee's efforts should have resulted in tangible benefits to the continuing advancement of OSAP's mission to be Dentistry's Resource for Infection Control and Safety. Nominees may be either HCPs or corporate members.

 

 


John Hunt OBE FFGDP(UK) BDS

Dr. John Hunt, chief executive of the British Dental Association from 1992 to 2000, received the 2011 Dr. Milton Schaefer Award. This award, named after one of the founding members of OSAP, recognizes superior service to the organization. The nominees for this honor have created tangible benefits to the continuing advancement of OSAP's mission to be dentistry's advocate for the safe and infection-free delivery of oral healthcare. Additionally, nominees must be OSAP members and may be from any of OSAP's constituencies including healthcare professionals, educators, consultants, or corporate members. 

Dr. Hunt has served on both the OSAP and OSAP Foundation Board of Directors. He has shared his expertise in organizational leadership with OSAP and has built bridges to dental organizations around the world in his highly professional but uniquely affable style. He has worked hard over the years to help OSAP develop a global reputation in infection prevention and safetywith the World Health Organization, FDI World Dental Federation, and others.

He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire by her majesty the Queen in 2000; he is a Fellow of the Faculty of General Dental Practice UK, an honorary member of the American Dental Association and a life fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Evandro Watanabe PhD is the recipient of the 2008 Dr. James A. Cottone Award for his research poster entitled "Dental Unit Water: Contamination with Oral Bacteria After Flushing Water." There was no recipient in 2009, 2010, and 2011.

Bette and Paul Schwarz Award for Volunteerism

This award, named in honor of the Schwarz's for their innumerable contributions of time and service to the OSAP Symposium, recognizes volunteers who go over-and-above in helping the organization achieve its goals through their volunteer service.

OSAP presents a very special award recognizing the dedication and hard work of its many volunteers. Named in honor of Bette & Paul Schwarz for their innumerable contributions of time and service to the OSAP Symposia, this award honors a volunteer who made a particularly meaningful difference for the previous year's Symposium. This year, Bette and Paul called Linda Basquill DDS to the podium to receive the 2011 Bette & Paul Schwarz Award for Volunteerism for the 2010 symposium.

In addition to her reputation as a leading prosthodontist and trainer in infection control, Dr. Basquill is known for her artistic talents and merchandising acumen. She has been invaluable in arranging the many auction items donated by generous OSAP members to the items' best advantage. Dr. Basquill's daughter, Jacquelyn Koon and daughter-in-law, Kristin Basquill, both assisted with the 2011 Symposium.
