Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

General Questions

Q: What is the OSAP Dental Infection Control Boot Camp?

A: The OSAP Dental Infection Control Boot Camp™ is a fast-paced, foundational-level educational course presented by national and international experts in dental infection prevention and patient safety. The course curriculum is based on the CDC Guidelines for Infection Control in Dental Health-Care Settings-2003, the 2016 Summary of Infection Prevention Practices in Dental Settings: Basic Expectations for Safe Care, the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard (1910.1030), and the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (1910.2000). While these guidelines and standards will tell you what to do, they will not tell you how to implement them. This course will help you to understand and implement the CDC guidelines and OSHA standards in your own practice setting.

The course content is consistent year-over-year with only minor updates based on new regulations or guidelines. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, course content will also cover the most up-to-date interim guidance and any related regulations.

Q: I’ve attended Boot Camp in the past. Am I able to attend this year?

A: Certainly! Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there will be updated content around the interim guidance.

Q: I recently attended the Annual Conference. Will this course offer the same content?

A: While both the OSAP Dental Infection Control Boot Camp and the OSAP Annual Conference offer incredible content, they are two separate events.

The OSAP Dental Infection Control Boot Camp is a foundational-level educational course with a comprehensive curriculum that covers all the basics in infection prevention and safety. The course content is consistent year-over-year with only minor updates based on new regulations or guidelines.

The OSAP Annual Conference is the premier infection control and patient safety education and networking event in dentistry. This action-packed conference delivers the latest updates on evolving guidance and emerging infection prevention and safety issues. The content offered at Annual Conference changes every year.

Q: When will the course take place?

A: Boot Camp will take place virtually Monday, January 24 – Wednesday, January 26, 2022. Federal Services will have a special session on January 27*.

*The Air Force, Army, Navy, IHS, and VA will each have additional training sessions. Ranking officers are required to attend, and civilians employed by these branches are encouraged to attend as well.

Q: Where will the course take place?

A: The course will be fully virtual.

Q: Why is Boot Camp going virtual?

A: After careful consideration, the Organization for Safety, Asepsis & Prevention (OSAP) executive committee of the Board of Directors has concluded that the January 24 - 26, 2022, Boot Camp will be offered as virtual-only. The OSAP board and staff were eagerly anticipating being together to share this learning experience in person. However, the rapid escalation of COVID-19 cases throughout the United States has impacted numerous segments of the country’s businesses. As you may be aware, the week-on week increases in new cases is at 79% and increases in hospitalizations follows at 27%. This rapidly paced increase in cases promises to continue for the near future, making it likely these disruptions will continue through January. This makes an in-person course in late January a challenging proposition for several reasons.

Of utmost importance is the concern for the health and welfare of our attendees, speakers, and exhibitors. Anytime there is a large group of people together during prolonged periods of time there is risk of spread of COVID-19. When this occurs while people are away from home it is particularly challenging. Traveling to and from the venue, congregating with large groups of people, eating all meals in restaurants, and other activities related to a conference are known to increase the risk of transmission. Travel has been disrupted throughout the country, which promises to continue into the near future. Attendees who come to Atlanta and then test positive will have to isolate in place. That may not be feasible if hotels do not have enough rooms to extend stays. The OSAP executive committee is also concerned about the impact this current surge is having on the healthcare delivery systems. This course should not be the source of a breakout that requires essential healthcare workers, such as many of our attendees, to reduce access to oral health care while they isolate.

Q: I am unable to attend January 24 - 26. Am I still able to view the recordings and/or claim CE?

A: Yes! Registration includes access to 23.75 hours of on-demand recordings for 60 days (starting Feb 14). Participants will be able to claim CE for these sessions.

Q: Does participating in Boot Camp count towards certification?

A: Yes! Participation in Boot Camp counts toward the education requirements for two certifications:

  • Certified in Dental Infection Prevention and Control (CDIPC) - A clinically focused professional certification
  • Dental Industry Specialist in Infection Prevention and Control (DISIPC) - An industry (dental trade)-focused professional certification
