Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

General Questions

Q: What is the OSAP Dental Infection Control Boot Camp?
A: The OSAP Dental Infection Control Boot Camp™ is a fast-paced, foundational-level educational course presented by national and international experts in dental infection prevention and patient safety. The course curriculum is based on the CDC Guidelines for Infection Control in Dental Health-Care Settings-2003, the 2016 Summary of Infection Prevention Practices in Dental Settings: Basic Expectations for Safe Care, the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard (1910.1030), and the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (1910.2000).

While these guidelines and standards will tell you what to do, they will not tell you how to implement them. This course will help you to understand and implement the CDC guidelines and OSHA standards in your own practice setting.

The course content is consistent year-over-year with only minor updates based on new regulations or guidelines. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, course content will also cover the most up-to-date interim guidance and any related regulations.

Q: Who should attend?
A: Boot Camp is perfect for those new to dental infection prevention and safety who are seeking an introductory understanding of the content area or for those who want to build on, apply, or enhance existing knowledge using content in practical applications to master concepts. This course is appropriate for those early in their career, making a career shift, or who want a refresher.

This may include:

  • Infection control coordinators and dental practice managers in solo and group practices
  • Educators/program directors responsible for infection prevention and safety instruction
  • Consultants/lecturers who want to demonstrate infection control competency
  • Military/federal service employees responsible for infection control in their duty stations
  • Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC)/Public Health personnel responsible for infection prevention and control
  • IHS/Tribal Health Organization/Tribal Urban Clinic personnel responsible for infection prevention and control
  • Sales representatives, customer service personnel, service technicians, and other professionals who work for the companies that manufacture or distribute products, equipment, or services to the dental profession
  • Those who inspect or investigate dental settings for compliance with the guidelines and standards on behalf of the government, regulatory, accrediting, or public health authorities

Q: I’ve participated in Boot Camp in the past. Am I able to participate this year?
A: Certainly! Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there was updated content around the interim guidance.

Q: I recently attended the Annual Conference. Will this course offer the same content?
A: While both the OSAP Dental Infection Control Boot Camp and the OSAP Annual Conference offer incredible content, they are two separate events.

The OSAP Dental Infection Control Boot Camp is a foundational-level educational course with a comprehensive curriculum that covers all the basics in infection prevention and safety. The course content is consistent year-over-year with only minor updates based on new regulations or guidelines.

The OSAP Annual Conference is the premier infection control and patient safety education and networking event in dentistry. This action-packed conference delivers the latest updates on evolving guidance and emerging infection prevention and safety issues. The content offered at Annual Conference changes every year.

Q: When will the course take place?
A: The 2022 Boot Camp took place in January 2022. Access to the On-Demand recordings of the sessions are available for sixty (60) days, beginning on Thursday, February 10.
