FAQ - Sterilization - 2016
FAQ - Sterilization - 2016

When running a cycle with a wrapped cassette, a pouch, and a hand piece, which cycle do you select on a gravity-displacement sterilizer (M11)? Pouch, pack or hand piece?

Regarding sterilization parameters for wrapped or containerized items, ANSI/AAMI ST79 states:

The sterilizer manufacturer’s written IFU for cycle parameters should be followed. Programmed cycle selections should be used. Any differences between the programmed cycle parameters and the cycle parameters recommended by the medical device manufacturer should be investigated and resolved before the items are sterilized. Procedures for correct cycle selection should be developed and implemented and resolved before the items are sterilized. 1

IFU means “instructions for use.” Ask OSAP is not in the position to provide technical support for specific products. If you have further questions about procedures and specific products it is recommended that you consult with the manufacturer’s written instruction manual and/or contact the manufacturer of your product directly. In this case, it is recommended that you review the instructions for use (IFU) for any devices being sterilized, as well as the sterilizer unit itself.
