Spotlight on Prevention: IMMUNIZATIONS

DESCRIPTION     Widespread use of vaccines as a major public health innovation has proven to be extremely successful in protecting the population from many childhood and adult infectious diseases. By the end of the 20th century, the benefits were so dramatic in reducing the incidence of many common infections that the CDC cited vaccination as the #1 public health achievement of the century. However, despite the availabiity of safe and effective vaccines, many adults still acquire vaccine-preventable diseases.  Healthcare workers are at particular risk for several vaccine-preventable diseases.  This lecture will address vaccine recommendations for health professionals: science, perceptions & myths. **This program was supported through an educational grant from Hu-Friedy

  1. Describe the major categories of vaccine preparations
  2. Discuss updated scientific and clinical knowledge concerning current vaccine recommendations for healthcare professionals
  3. Be aware of the most current vaccination recommendations for dental healthcare personnel
