OSAP 2009-2010 Board of Directors


Lori Paulson

Lori Paulson has been working for American Dental Cooperative, subsidiary of National Distribution & Contracting for the past six years. Currently, as the Managing Director, Ms. Paulson is responsible for building vendor programs to drive market share in the dental industry. Working with the finest group of independent dental dealers in North America to ensure results are achieved. The Quala private label product, ADSTRA Imaging and software products and the Leap Solutions, HIPAA Simple products are a few of the ADC exclusive programs available only through ADC member dealers.

Lori Paulson has previous experience as the Director of Marketing for 9 years at Pelton & Crane, Division of Siemens Corp. Responsible for all marketing activities in support of the entire dental product line, including Siemens X-ray and Pelton products. Coordinated all sales meetings and product training activities. Involved in numerous product launches.

I began in the dental industry with the Midwest Handpiece Company, (currently Dentsply Professional division) in 1981 in the Business Planning and Marketing Departments. I was at Midwest for 5 years.

MBA from University of Denver, 1981. Undergraduate degree in Business/Marketing from LewisUniversity.

Currently active as ADTA Board Member at-large. Participation in various committee activities. Also on the American Dental Assistants Association Foundation Board since 2000. Prior involvement in OSAP committees and functions supporting the overall OSAP organization for many years.

Doni Bird RDH MA

Doni Bird is the Director of Allied Dental Education at Santa Rosa Junior College in Santa Rosa, California. She also maintains an infection control consulting business. She received her dental hygiene degree from the University of New Mexico, and a Masters Degree in Education from San Francisco State University. Prior to joining the faculty at SRJC, she held teaching positions at the University of New Mexico, the University of Minnesota, and the University of California San Francisco, School of Dentistry. She is the co-author of 5 editions of Modern Dental Assisting, the leading auxiliary textbook in the U.S. and Canada. She has published many articles on OSHA compliance and infection control. She has consulted for educational institutions regarding facility design, with emphasis on infection control and ergonomic considerations. She has participated in clinical studies testing safety devices, and waterline products. She served as Chairman of the Dental Assisting National Board, and President of the Northern California Dental Assisting Association. She is currently a member of the California Dental Hygiene Educators Association and the California Association of Dental Assisting Teachers. In addition, she currently serves as a consultant to the American Dental Association, Commission on Dental Accreditation. She served two terms as a member of the Board of Directors of the California Dental Association Foundation. Doni has been a member and strong supporter of OSAP since 1985.


Immediate Past Chair
Linda Basquill DDS

Dr. Linda C. Basquill graduated from EmoryUniversity with a B.S. in Biology in 1977 and earned her D.D.S. degree from EmoryUniversity's School of Dentistry in 1981. Upon graduation, she joined the U.S. Army and was assigned to FT Benning, Georgia where she completed a one-year General Practice Residency.

In 1991 Dr. Basquill completed her prosthodontic specialty training at Fort Gordon, Georgia and spent the following year as the deputy commander of the Army's Dental Laboratory where she was the chief of prosthetic services and responsible for the updated implementation and oversight of the laboratory's infection control program. In addition to practicing prosthodontics and training 1-year AEGD (Advanced Education in General Dentistry) residents, Dr. Basquill worked in the infection control arena for the remainder of her military career. One of her many infection control assignments included the updating and monitoring of the infection control programs for thirteen Army dental clinics in Germany from 1996-1998. In 2001 Dr. Basquill was appointed the U.S. Army's Consultant to the Surgeon General for Dental Infection Control.

After over 21 years of active service, Dr. Basquill retired from the U.S. Army in February 2003. She continued to work as the Dental Infection Control Consultant for the U.S. Army until October 2004. Dr. Basquill is now in private practice in Columbia, SC. She lectures frequently on infection control and safety and is an active member of OSAP (Organization for Safety and Asepsis Procedures, Dentistry's Resource for Infection Control) currently serving on the Executive Board as Treasurer for the organization. She is also an active member of professional organizations including the ADA, ACP (AmericanCollege of Prosthodontics), and AO (Academy of Osseointegration).


Peggy Cottrell

Ms. Margaret (Peggy) Cottrell is the President of ConFirm Monitoring Systems and brings more than 27 years of successful business ownership, executive management and strategic leadership experience with a proven track record of providing innovative direction, vision and consulting expertise for successful venues in diverse healthcare products manufacturing, distribution and related support services.

In 1979 Ms. Cottrell co-founded Cottrell Ltd, a worldwide distributor of infection control products and services. Under her watch, Cottrell Ltd grew from 2 to over 250 employees and witnessed a period of unprecedented growth.

In 1984, the subject of infection control and disease transmission was a topic of growing interest in the dental community. Recognizing a need for collaborative efforts on the part of healthcare professionals, academicians, clinicians, manufacturers, distributors, and government agencies to engage not only in dialogue, but to establish uniform standards and procedures for infection control and disease prevention, Ms. Cottrell co-founded the Organization for Safety and Asepsis Procedures. Twenty-two years later, she remains as passionate about patient protection, safety and well-being in the clinical setting, and a committed crusader for OSAP's mission.

In addition to managing ConFirm Monitoring and serving on the OSAP Foundation Board of Directors, Ms. Cottrell Chairs the OSAP Corporate Fundraising Committee and serves on the Executive Committee of Oral Health America. She also is a member of the Dental Trade Alliance, is President of the Diamond Ridge Homeowners Association and is a First Responder with the Denver Chapter of the American Red Cross.


Jeff Sherman

Mr. Sherman earned a BA from the University of Michigan. He has 30 years of experience in the dental industry working in both distribution and manufacturing. Since 1988 he has been involved in infection control products and promotion of safety in the dental environment. A member of OSAP since 1998, he has served on the marketing committee and has attended several annual sessions. He currently is Director of Product Development, Corporate Brands Development for Henry Schein Inc.


Doug Braendle

I was raised in Northwest PA and attended school in Meadville, PA. I went to college at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, IN, with a Life Science major and a Business Administration minor. Upon completion of college, I was hired by a small dental dealer in Erie, Pa named Northwestern Dental. We were owned by Buffalo Dental and I worked for them in a sales territory for 8 years. I left Buffalo Dental to work in the Pittsburgh area for Healthco. I was with Healthco as a territory sales rep for 8 years. After the demise of Healthco, I worked for Brasseler for two years and then moved on to SciCan Inc. in 1994. I have worked for SciCan Inc. as a Territory Manager, Sales Administrator and currently as Product Manager for the US. My contacts are with industry leading clinicians and our corporate sales partners which include among others, Henry Schein Dental, Patterson Dental, Benco Dental, Burkhart Dental, Atlanta Dental and many others. I am responsible for all SciCan product training including internal and the training of our corporate selling partners. I am in charge of all dental shows including the "BIG 7" where our corporate booth is in place.



Dr. Hunt has enjoyed a varied career. He graduated as a dentist from Guy's Hospital in London, UK and after a brief spell as a house surgeon he obtained a Fulbright Scholarship to study at the EastmanDentalCenter in the US. This was followed by three years at the London Hospital Dental Institute and then ten years as a general dental practitioner in Torquay, UK.

In 1980 he and his family left for Hong Kong where, for five years, he was a Clinical Dental Surgeon at the new PrincePhilipDentalHospital. On his return to the UK he became a civil servant in the UK's Department of Health. In 1993 he became the Chief Executive of the British Dental Association, a position he held until 2001.

Currently he is a Vice-President of the Commonwealth Dental Association, an International Board Member of the Organization for Safety and Asepsis Procedures (OSAP) in the US and a Director of Smile-on Ltd. He also chairs the Advisory Panel of Dentaid, the UK based dental charity, is a member of the General Dental Council's Appointments Committee and Chairman of his local village hall and playing field trust at home in southwest England.


Andy Whitehead

Andy Whitehead, Vice President of Crosstex International, is a prior member of the OSAP Board and served as Chairman 2005-2007. He has more than 30 years of experience in the dental industry, working on both the distribution and manufacturing sides of the business, and has been involved in infection control and safety throughout most of his career.


Cheryl Wolf CDA BS

Cheryl received her B.S. degree in Health Science Education from New York State University at Buffalo in 1980 and has since enjoyed a 25 year teaching career. In addition to her B.S. degree, Cheryl obtained an Associate of Arts Degree in Social Work from Daytona Beach Community College and an Associate of Science Degree in Dental Assisting Technology from Western Wisconsin Technical College.

Prior to her teaching career, Cheryl held a Dental Auxiliary Utilization Teaching Assistant position at Marquette University School of Dentistry, and worked as an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant in both general and pediatric dentistry.

Cheryl currently is on faculty at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, North Carolina. She is a Certified Dental Assistant, as well as a North Carolina DA-II. She teaches Infection/Hazard Control to Dental Assisting/Hygiene students and has developed the Dental Infection/Hazard Control course for internet delivery. Cheryl also conducts OSHA Updates and Infection Control training sessions for faculty/staff in the Health Sciences Division.

She continues to develop courses for Distance Learning and has completed courses for the Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting Programs for on-line delivery titled "Dental Office Emergencies For Hygienists” and "Dental Sciences for Dental Assisting.”

Cheryl has served on the Board of Trustees for the Health Center for Teens & Young Adults and for Community Health Services; she is a past president of North Carolina's Dental Assisting Educator's Association; former advisor on Johnson & Johnson's Infection Control Advisory Panel; and past member of North Carolina's Department of Community College's OSHA Policy and Procedures Committee.

She joined OSAP in 1996 and has served the Organization as a speaker and on special projects since 2001. Cheryl currently serves on the OSAP Association's Board of Directors and co-chairs the education committee.
