March 13, 2012 (ANNAPOLIS) — The Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP) welcomes Dr. Marion Bergman as its speaker for the 2012 Dr. John S. Zapp Memorial Lecture, the keynote presentation, during the OSAP Annual Symposium June 21-23 in Atlanta. The theme of this year's conference is "Connecting to Drive Compliance.”

Established in 2006, the Dr. John Zapp Memorial Lecture's purpose is to build bridges for global leaders to promote the exchange of knowledge regarding infection and safety for dental patients and providers. Dr. Bergman is scheduled to address the symposium on Friday, June 22.

Dr. Bergman is the director of healthcare projects for "Miracle Corners of the World, Inc.” In addition, she serves as a trustee for the Global Child Dental Fund, the American Jewish World Service and Physicians for Human Rights. While continuing to practice medicine part time, she devotes the majority of her time and energy to rural health and improvement projects in the developing world. She also serves as a Governor of the American Jewish Committee, a co-founder of its Africa Institute, and a member of its Jacob Blaustein Institute for Human Rights Administrative Council. She is an advisory board member of Tel Aviv University's Harold Hartog School of Government and Public Policy, and a member of the board of visitors for Temple University's Komberg School of Dentistry.

Dr. Bergman, a 1974 graduate of the Witwatersrand Medical School in South Africa, has served as Treasurer of the Board of Directors of Medical Education for South African Blacks, which provided scholarships to train black healthcare professionals in South Africa. She specialized in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Disease at SUNY Downstate (Brooklyn) and Stony Brook and practiced Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care in Patchogue, N.Y. She also served a term as Medical Staff President of Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center and as its Medical Director of Respiratory Care Services.

The OSAP Symposium will be conducted at the new, conveniently located Loews Atlanta Hotel. The comprehensive program will feature more than 20 influential speakers discussing the latest diseases, vaccinations, trends, regulatory updates, research technologies and training tools.
