April 29, 2021 (ATLANTA) — The Organization for Safety, Asepsis, and Prevention (OSAP) announces its 16th annual Dr. John S. Zapp Global Lecturer, Margaret Hamburg, MD. Dr. Hamburg is the former foreign secretary of the National Academy of Medicine and former Commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Dr. Hamburg's presentation, "Crisis and Complacency: How the Oral Healthcare Community Can Help Us Be Better Prepared for the Next Pandemic," will offer an in-depth example of how the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) partnered with the broader research and development community on biomedical innovation. Dr. Hamburg will also discuss how the oral healthcare community, including associations, academia, clinicians, policymakers, manufacturers, and distributors, can and should be harnessed to do things in new ways with new partnerships to address digital disinformation, contribute to testing and vaccination needs, and play an essential role in rebuilding societal confidence in science, medicine, and vaccines.

This year's lecture will be delivered in a fireside chat format, hosted by one of OSAP's founding members, Stanley Bergman, Chairman of the Board and CEO, Henry Schein, Inc.

The Zapp Lecture kicks off OSAP's Virtual Conference on Wednesday, June 2. Registration is open. The virtual conference (June 2-5) will highlight the newest trends, research, and innovations in infection prevention, patient safety, and occupational health. Participants will learn a wide variety of current and emerging issues related to infection prevention and safety in oral healthcare settings, including the latest updates on the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, the virtual platform will provide the opportunity to network with a variety of infection prevention and safety experts and colleagues from around the world and earn up to 16 CE credits. Recordings will be made available for registered attendees for 60 days following the event. OSAP is also offering a one-day registration rate.

Early-bird rates are available now through May 5 at osap.org/2021AnnualConf

OSAP Executive Director Michelle Lee, CPC, says, "This year's theme: Safer & Stronger Together, will focus on the path forward from the COVID-19 pandemic. While last year has been very challenging, it has also shown us how resilient the oral healthcare community is. We are looking forward to hosting this year's conference to share the work being done to ensure that patients and providers remain safe as we move forward as a collective whole."
