February 12, 2021 (ATLANTA) — The Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP) announced a new infection prevention and control guide for school sealant programs during the COVID-19 pandemic. School sealant programs (SSPs) are recognized as an effective model for providing preventive oral health services to children at increased risk of developing dental caries and are less likely to have access to regular dental care. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Division of Oral Health (DOH) published Considerations for School Sealant Programs During the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) on December 1, 2020. OSAP's Infection Prevention & Control Guide for School Sealant Programs During the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is designed to supplement CDC guidance with additional considerations for practical implementation.

Michelle Lee, CPC, OSAP’s Executive Director, says “OSAP is proud to provide resources to protect the health, safety, and well-being of students, teachers, staff, and dental healthcare personnel (DHCP) who participate in school sealant programs."

Additionally, registration is now open for a free webinar on infection prevention and control in school sealant programs presented by Kathy Eklund, RDH, MHP, and Jill Moore, EdD, MHA, BSDH, RDH. The webinar will be worth one CE credit and will be streamed live on February 15, 18, and 19 at 1:00 PM ET. These webinars are supported by Contract Number, [75D30119P06436], funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Division of Oral Health. Its contents are solely the responsibility of the speakers and do not necessarily represent the official views of the CDC or the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
