2019 Boot Camp Travel

The 2019 OSAP Dental Infection Control Boot Camp™ will be in Atlanta, Georgia home of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Boot Camp will be conducted at the InterContinental Hotel in the center of Buckhead, Atlanta's most famous neighborhood, a few blocks from the city's best shopping and restaurants, and a short train ride from the airport.

Atlanta has countless attractions the Boot Camp attendee may wish to consider before or after the course. One of the most famous attractions in the city is the Martin Luther King, Jr., National Historic Site, especially since Boot Camp falls right after MLK Day. The King birthplace and grave site, Ebenezer Baptist Church, and the Martin Luther King, Jr., Center for Nonviolent Social Change stand as testimony to the accomplishments of the city's Nobel Peace Prize recipient. Just east of downtown, off North Highland Avenue, is the Jimmy Carter Presidential Center, with a library and museum. Also located in the downtown area is the Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca-Cola and the College Football Hall of Fame.

Buckhead offfers the Atlanta History Center with the gorgeous Swam House and a StoryCorps booth if you want to record a slice of personal history (interviews are archived at the Library of Congress). StoryCorps reservations are taken the first Monday of the month.

Traveling to and from Atlanta is just as easy as exploring it. For seasoned and non-seasoned travelers alike the city has several great options when traveling to Buckhead from the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (Airport Code: ATL). When selecting your travel options, please note that the Intercontinental does not offer shuttle service to or from the airport.

Options include:
  • Taxi Cab: One-way fares for Atlanta airport transport to the InterContinental range from $42 plus tax, depending on traffic.
  • MARTA: Travelers can board the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) train within the airport. Train fare is $2.50. Train service runs from 4:45 a.m. - 1:00 a.m. on weekdays and 6:00 a.m. -1:00 a.m. on weekends. Trains depart every 10 minutes weekdays and every 15 minutes on weekends. From the airport, InterContinental guests should board the Northbound train (N to North Springs). Exit at the Buckhead Station N7 and go through the tunnel under Peachtree Road to head West on Peachtree Road (toward Piedmont Road). The hotel is 1.5 blocks away. Guests also may call the hotel at 404-734-1828 to request pick up from the courtesy car.

Atlanta Weather
Atlanta's elevation and southern location combine to make its climate quite mild. Snow is a rarity in winters, when the average mean temperature in January is 45° F (7° C).
