LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT

James A. Cottone, DMD, MS

The Dr. James J. Crawford Award is named in honor of one of the founding fathers of dental infection control. Awardees have made major contributions in science, education, or public policy related to OSAP’s core competencies of infection control and patient and provider safety.

Dr. Cottone, is a globally recognized leader in dental infection control. He has authored numerous books, articles, and book chapters and developed a post-doctoral program in dental infection control. Dr. Cottone has long been an advocate of infection control research and education. He was one of the founding members of OSAP, for which he served as chairman and contributed greatly to the strategic direction of the association.

SUPERIOR SERVICE TO OSAP

Eve Cuny, MS

The Dr. Milton Schaefer Award recognizes nominees whose efforts have resulted in tangible benefits to the continuing advancement of OSAP’s mission to be the world’s leading advocate for the safe and infection-free delivery of oral healthcare. This award named after one of the founding members of OSAP, recognizes superior service to the organization and may recognize either continuous contributions over a period of time or singular accomplishments. The nominee's efforts should have resulted in tangible benefits to the continuing advancement of OSAP's mission to be Dentistry's Resource for Infection Control and Safety. Nominees may be either HCPs or corporate members.

Eve Cuny serves as Director of Environmental Health and Safety, Assistant Dean for Global Relations, and an associate professor at University of the Pacific Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco, California. She is a consultant to the ADA Council on Scientific Affairs and an expert reviewer to the CDC. Ms. Cuny has published numerous articles and textbook chapters on safety and infection control and presented hundreds of continuing education programs domestically and internationally.

Keynote Speaker               

Dr. John S. Zapp Memorial Lecture

In an effort to honor and preserve Dr. Zapp’s memory, the Friends of OSAP, a committed group of leaders who seek to integrate OSAP initiatives into broader global health platforms, established the Dr. John S. Zapp Memorial Lecture. The lecture is intended to build bridges with global leaders to promote knowledge exchange about oral infection and safety both for patients and providers of care.

CAPT Fagan is a Medical Officer with the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion (DHQP), CDC, Atlanta and lead of the Consultation and Training Team for healthcare infection prevention and control. CAPT Fagan is ABIM-certified in adult infectious diseases, and with the DHQP, he has served in surveillance, research, and outbreak response roles including support for many responses to outbreaks of healthcare-associated infections in the U.S. and domestic and international deployments for the 2014-2015 and 2018-2019 Ebola outbreaks in Africa.

EMERGING INFECTION CONTROL LEADER

In 2015, OSAP introduced a new award: Emerging Infection Control Leader. The goal for the award is to help develop and promote the next generation of stars in the field of dental infection prevention and safety by identifying outstanding new infection control advocates.

Joyce Moore is a clinical instructor in the Department of Dental Hygiene at Bristol Community College in Fall River, Massachusetts. As a speaker and consultant, she has worked with professional associations, independent dental practices, and medical facilities. In addition, she is a clinical educator for the Midmark Corporation.

This award, named in honor of the Schwarz's for their innumerable contributions of time and service to the OSAP Conference, recognizes volunteers who go over-and-above in helping the organization achieve its goals through their volunteer service.

Liliana Junqueira de P. Donatelli has been a proud member of OSAP since 2010. She is also responsible for the Brazilian page in the international section of the OSAP website. Ms. Donatelli serves as a coordinator for the Biosafety Project for Cristófoli, which has allowed her to produce over 30 YouTube videos dedicated to infection control and prevention. Ms. Donatelli is also a successful blogger; "Blog Biossegurança" has had more than 2.5 million views since its creation! Ms. Donatelli’s contributions to magazine articles have led to her being recognized as one of Brazil’s infection control leaders in dentistry.
