During the COVID-19 pandemic, concerns about aerosol exposure prompted additional infection prevention and control protocols. Are any of those protocols still recommended, and did any of them "stick"? Have dental teams gone back to their old ways since the pandemic ended? These and other questions will be addressed by four compliance consultants who interact with dental teams daily. The consultants will discuss misconceptions about and misuse of PPE, frequently observed errors in instrument reprocessing, dental unit waterline maintenance, and failure to train new employees in dental settings.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Discuss infection protocols that were changed or added during the pandemic and are still recommended now that the pandemic has ended.
  2. Evaluate current protocols for instrument cleaning, packaging, and sterilization.
  3. Evaluate current use of Personal Protective Equipment based on infectious disease transmission risks.
  4. Develop a protocol for dental unit waterline maintenance.
