As the ADA and AAMI consider the regulatory landscape after COVID-19, there are changes with infection prevention technology your practice can make now to be prepared including implementing: Class B autoclaves, closed-door drying, in-office biological indicators, and high disinfection washers. Dentistry has had to pivot with infection prevention and control with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The instrument processing cycle and the assurance of sterility are important to ensure patient safety. Infection prevention guidance documents from CDC have been updated several times since the onset of the pandemic, while regulatory guidance from AAMI/ANSI and OSHA has remained fairly consistent without sweeping changes. However, the use of various technology can prepare dental practices for possible regulatory guidance changes, if and when they occur. Using Class B autoclaves, closed-door drying, in-office biological indicators, and high disinfection washers will prepare practices for compliance with the anticipated new guidance.
